Many gases in the industrial production process make modern industry face major problems in safety production and environmental protection.

Industrial gases are indispensable production materials in the fields of electrical insulation, metal processing, and electronic manufacturing. Some gases are highly toxic, and once leaked, they will cause harm to human health. There are also flammable gases that pose a risk of explosion if not stored or used properly. In addition to these risks, even some inert or harmless gases such as carbon dioxide, if the content is too high, resulting in a significant reduction in the oxygen content in the environment, there will be a risk of suffocation due to lack of oxygen.

Chemical factories generally store a large number of chemicals which are flammable, explosive and hazardous, and there are also extremely high risks in the process of production, storage, use, and transportation. If the safety control is not proper, it is easy to cause mass injures and death accidents. Once a fire and explosion accident occurs in a chemical enterprise, it presents the characteristics of great explosion threat, super destructive power, fast spread burning, high toxicity, and easy casualties. How to prevent such accidents is an important aspect of chemical enterprise fire safety.

Many potential hazards come from dangerous gases. Industrial or chemical enterprises need to use sensors of different principles to quickly sense and warn the concentration of different gases according to the actual situation and the characteristics of the existing flammable and toxic gases.

FLAMMABLE GAS DETECTION

To detect the concentration of flammable gases such as natural gas, liquefied petroleum LPG gas, coal gas, propane and alkanes on industrial sites, various flammable gases in the chemical production process, sensors of oxide semiconductor type, catalytic combustion type, electrochemical type and infrared can be used.

Among them, the catalytic combustion gas sensor has high precision and is suitable for quantitative detection in coal mines, petroleum, chemical industry, gas and other fields.

The infrared gas sensor uses the principle of non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) to detect hydrocarbon combustible gases in the air. It has good selectivity, no oxygen dependence, stable performance and long life. It can be widely used in industrial field instruments and meters , industrial process and safety monitoring.

TOXIC GAS DETECTION

Many raw materials in chemical field are toxic or corrosive. Accidental contact or inhalation of toxic substances or the volatilized gases can lead to poisoning or damage to the body , and severe cases can cause burns or even coma or death. Especially in hot weather, toxic and harmful substances are extremely volatile and adsorbed through skin pores to cause personnel poisoning.

Electrochemical(shorted as EC) gas sensors can detect a variety of toxic and harmful gases(CO,NH3,H2S,NO2,O3,SO2,CL2,HF,H2,PH3,HCL) and have the advantages of low power consumption, linear output and good resolution, which are the first to be applied in the industrial field. Decades of technological development have also proved EC sensors to provide very good selectivity for specific gas.

OXYGEN O2 CONTENT DETECTION

The lack of oxygen in the air will damage the body function, and to a certain extent, fatal accidents may occur; on the other hand, oxygen is also a necessary condition for combustion, too much oxygen will make the combustion reaction more intense. When flammable gas or excessive oxygen content in steam of flammable liquid may cause an explosion. Therefore, it’s necessary to detect and monitor the oxygen lack state and oxygen content in the combustible gas.

Electrochemical oxygen O2 sensors are widely acclaimed for their good selectivity, high sensitivity, and linear output. They are often used in oxygen content detection in limited spaces and in various occasions that require the measurement of oxygen concentration.
